Get the torches and pitchforks

A participant in the E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park Triathlon held this morning was hit and killed by a drunk hit-and-run driver. There is an article on it on the Courier-Journal's web site, and I'm sure there are other articles on other local news stations' sites.

The photo of the driver at fault (allegedly) shows a young man whose life has changed dramatically since a month ago. Ten or eleven days ago, he was cited for driving under the influence, and was awaiting a court date on that offense when he and a buddy chose to drink and smoke dope all night (according to quotes in the paper's article), then run over a cyclist on his way home this morning. I have no pity whatsoever for the driver.

Predictably, there are a few posts along the lines of "get the damned bikes off the road this wouldn't happen," all of which ignore (of course) that it happens to passengers in other cars quite often.

Damn.
